Ooi Thye Chong
Dr Ooi Thye Chong holds a doctorate from the University of Edinburgh, a master’s degree in public health from Columbia University, New York, a master’s degree in Chinese medicine (United States) and a bachelor’s degree with honours in social psychology from the University of Sussex (United Kingdom). She is a registered nurse (UK, USA) and a nationally qualified acupuncture practitioner and Chinese herbalist (USA). Prior to joining the University of Edinburgh as a lecturer, she founded and directed the Integrative Health Program, New York University Cancer Institute and the Complementary Therapy Program, St. Vincent’s Comprehensive Cancer Center, New York, USA. She was the Director of Program Development at Haelth, a freestanding integrative oncology centre, New York. Dr Chong’s research interests include pain management using a specific style of acupuncture, Meridian Balance Method Acupuncture. Her clinical focus is on improving patients’ well-being through a combination of Chinese medicine health counselling, acupuncture and teaching patients self-care skills. She is part of the multidisciplinary team, the Edinburgh Centre for Pelvic Pain and Endometriosis Care and Treatment Centre (EXPPECT Centre) and the Edinburgh Palliative and Supportive Care Group.
