Description
Stephen Birch with his presentation about the Art of Needling at the TCM-Kongress in Rothenburg 2013: Dr. Stephen Birch gives a comprehensive theoretical historic review and the early medical literature and the needling techniques of Japanese Acupuncture. He explains the basics of the Huangdi Jeijing, the Suwen and Lingshu and their linkages to the needling techniques.
He shows the different styles of the nine needles of the Lingshu and different acupuncture points.
After 60 min he makes a live demonstration in conjunction with needling and the pulse changes.
What is needed for an effective needling? Needling and root treatment demonstrates he shows a method of touching and what he feels when the needle touches the skin. He explains the timing issue during the needling and different drain methods in relation to the changes of the pulse. He tells the contact of the Qi if he removes the needle rapidly. The video shows exactly how he inserts and remove the needle and why he does so. Then the talks about factors involved in the needling techniques and
their origins in historical literature (Ling Shu and Nan Ching) and talks about Denmei Shudo,
yin-yang stages, cosmological concepts, the correspondence of channels and acupoints,
the source points, the five-phase-points (in correlations of the 5 elements).
The emphasis is more on the theoretical background and the general understanding
of the way of needling rather than seeing how someone is getting needled.
