Stress in Infertility treatments is a lecture by Anat Mendler Shefer and Keren Sela.

The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines stress as: A physical, chemical, or emotional factor that causes bodily or mental tension and may be a factor in disease causation, OR: a state resulting from a stress, especially: one of bodily or mental tension resulting from factors that tend to alter an existent equilibrium.

The connection between physical, chemical and emotional factors and the term equilibrium is very much at play in a Chinese Clinic: the connection between Shen and Body is one we seek to understand, we strive towards equilibrium, in our mind and body. This is especially true in fertility issues where the entire concept of the Bao Mai embodies that of mind and matter. Much research has been done on stress and its impact on fertility. In this lecture we will translate stress into Chinese terms using the Five Element Model among others. By referring to existing scientific models such as PN(E)I (Psychology, Neurology, Endocrinology, Immunology) and clinical experience in the treatment of infertility, we will suggest models of treatment with acupuncture, herbs, breathing exercises and nutrition.
